What an exciting week! After an anonymous vote from all our jury members, we ended up with three designers for the 2014 i.materialise Designer of the Year Award. The first nominee we would like to introduce to you is Adrian Gögl, a young Swiss industrial designer with an innovative 3D Printing project called “Oak & Dust”.

The Magical World of 3D Printed Comic Creatures: The Adorable Mushables by Elfriede de Rooster
Belgian designer Elfriede de Rooster, also known as Brrrumblebee, has been drawing ever since she was a small child. Influenced by Belgian comic books and French animation series, she soon started to draw characters from her favorite comics. After working for Studio Peyo, the creator of the Smurfs, and helping in the creation of the Danish film series “Troll Tales”, Elfriede started experimenting with digital 2D painting using Corel Painter before switching to 3D modelling software in 2007. In this post, we get to know the talented designer and learn how she is using ZBrush to make her cute, adorable and warmhearted 3D Printed creatures come to life. Fresh off the printer, the “Incunabula” is the latest dress 3D printed by Materialise as part of the “1914 Now: Four Perspectives on Fashion Curation” installation. Following Rem Koolhaas’s Venice Architecture Biennale “Absorbing Modernity: 1914 — 2014”, four curators were asked to respond to the exhibition with a fashion piece and film installation. Viva Las Vegas – i.materialise looks back at CES 2015
Taking place in Las Vegas from January 6th to 9th, this year marked the second edition of the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 3D Printing Marketplace. Organized by the intrepid team at TCT Magazine + Personalize, it was i.materialise’s first time participating in the event. Just like the awe-inspiring hotels and casinos of its host city, it goes without saying that CES was an incredibly huge and impressive event with more than 150,000 visitors. (more…)
