Description
(Why is there a space between "Flang" and "e"? Because i.materialise rejects f-l-a-n-g-e: "Some words are not allowed." I kid you not.)
Tom Jolly is a pretty impressive guy (check out his website); he’s an astronautical engineer, a board game inventor, a science fiction writer, and of course a mechanical puzzle designer. I've been playing around with several of his designs and really like the ones that consist of multiple identical copies of one fundamental piece. For example, “Double-Bar-Cube”, “Stairs”, and F77A.
F77A is not the hardest puzzle in the world (it’s a 4.2.2 move puzzle) but it's fun to solve and I really liked the shape. I added grooves to hide the seams between the pieces and some holes to create some ambiguity about how the pieces interlock. Tom has very kindly given me his permission to sell my version of his design. Hope you like it!
The puzzle consists of the six pieces held inside a cage that you will need to snip open (wire cutters work best). Also, don't forget that you will be receiving the puzzle in an unassembled state.
Pyrigan & Company
For the most part, I design and make high tolerance mechanical puzzles in aluminum, brass, and steel. You can read about them on my website (https://pyrigan.com). But I also enjoy solving other people's puzzles and when I find one that I think will come out reasonably well when 3D printed, I create an .STL file and try it out. If it's a success and the designer gives me permission, I'll add the puzzle here.
