3D printed (Warhol) designs conquer RAPID 2013

3D printed (Warhol) designs conquer RAPID 2013

This year we re-introduced Andy Warhol with a 3D printed touch in Pittsburgh. Yesterday we showed you the wonderful designs of our Andy Warhol Challenge, today we’re showing you the beautiful creations of Stephen Jones and Murray Moss.

Marking one of the first times that works by Andy Warhol have been reinterpreted by 3D Printing technologies, the event, (organized to celebrate the opening of the RAPID 2013 ), featured both ‘Factory 2.0’, a series of Warhol-inspired installations spread about the museum, as well as the five finalists of our challenge. The event was a resounding success with hundreds of awestruck visitors seeing firsthand how 3D Printing is changing the way that art is conceived and made.

Bay Area Maker Faire recap in a word: Awesome

We just got back from the Bay Area Maker Faire over the weekend and wanted to share some highlights with you. This was our first time at the Maker Faire here in the US and it was simply incredible. There were so many people excited to learn about 3D printing and what we do, that we had a constant flow of people in the booth. And we loved getting to meet so many great people, explain our services, and talk about all the cool things that are going on in the 3D printing industry. So thanks to each and every one of you for stopping by.

Our weekend started with a notice of a delayed shipment. Oh no! But we had some samples on hand and made the best of it. And it didn’t stop people from coming by to ask about our services, either. With some quick thinking and a bit of help from @FedExHelp on Twitter, we managed to locate the shipment and get someone out to retrieve it.

So by Sunday, we were back in business. And we had so much great stuff to show everyone! To see our entire booth, take

Maker Faire update

We’re here at the Bay Area Maker Faire, about 3/4 of the way through the day. It has been GREAT to see all of you who have stopped by so far. Franky was on the Autodesk “Future of 3D Printing” panel, which had some really good questions and answers about future 3D materials, current experimentation with materials, and where the industry is headed.

If you’ve gone by our booth, you may notice that we didn’t quite have all of our promised demos. Unfortunately, we had some delays in getting our items here on time (due a variety of factors beyond our control). We do still have material samples, though, and we’ll continue to be at the booth the rest of the evening and all day Sunday. (We’re working on getting our display pieces before Sunday morning and will update you if we will have additional items in the booth tomorrow.)

In addition, we are still doing our meet-up tonight at The Swingin’ Door here in San Mateo. So if you’re in the area, join us from 8-10 pm for a closer look at som

Join us for Autodesk’s ‘Future of 3D Printing’ panel at Maker Faire

The Maker Faire is coming up quickly and we can’t wait to meet everyone! In addition to having a booth and a Saturday night meet-up, we’re participating in a panel -organized by Autodesk- at the Faire.

Autodesk is sponsoring a panel discussion on Saturday, May 18th from 3:00-3:30 pm on the Make: Live stage. And our very own Franky will be one of the panelists. The topics they’ll discuss will include the following:

  • What materials are on the way?
  • What new technologies can we expect in the coming year?
  • How will the technology change the creative landscape for Young Makers, Educators, Designers and Futurist?

And if there’s time, they’ll take audience questions as well. We’re looking forward to this discussion. So tell us, what questions would you ask about the future of 3D printing, given the opportunity?

Stop by the i.materialise booth at Maker Faire

The Bay Area Maker Faire is rapidly approaching. We’re busy getting together some awesome things for our booth, so you’ll have plenty to look at (and do!) when you stop by!

So what WILL you find at the i.materialise booth? Well, we have the widest range of materials from which to print your awesome designs. We’ll have samples of a variety of materials so you can check them out in person and see exactly how great our print quality is.

In addition to our material samples, we’ll have some items that showcase the many ways you can use our 3D printing services to make some pretty cool things. Like the Bioscope by Jon Stam and Simon de Bakker. Now this just takes me right back to being a kid and I can’t wait to play with it. (I promise I’ll share, though.)

And this super 3D printed hat by Elvis Pompilio & .Rad Product (who has worked with Madonna, no less).

And even an art piece, called The Groomer, by Eric van Straaten that you really have to see in person to believe the level o
