The Month of April in 3D printing

Without a doubt it was a busy month in the world of 3D printing. Big companies started spending their money again. This continues to enforce the trend that we’re on a road towards a future of a handful of big 3D printing players.

We also saw the continued rise of crowd funding projects in the world of 3D printing and as often happens… more new 3D printers for us to get our hands on. Let’s have a look at the news items in detail…

First, the business news… It seems that 3D Systems got back into its spending habit of last year by acquiring My Robot Nation and Paramount Industries. Could it be the beginning of another spending spree this year? Only time will tell… On the other hand, they also got to present the new Z Printer 850. It promises higher print volume, greater productivity and vibrant full color that empowers designers, engineers, and architects to create more and larger parts faster.

At the same time we can’t really say that the other 3D Printing giant calle

Last week of 2011: Our printers need a break, our people keep on going

As mentioned in our previous blog post about the year in 3D printing, we can say with total confidence that 2011 was a big year. Not only was it a big year for the entire 3D printing industry, but also for us at i.materialise. We have seen our monthly orders increase with almost 300% and our turnover has more than quadrupled. For this we want to thank you, our dear customers and creative designers.

Of course, such wonderful labor has taxed all of our hard working machines and so we’ve decided to give them a well-deserved holiday break between the 23rd of December and the 2nd of January of 2012. After all, we don’t want them to turn against us and start a whole Terminator revolt. To be honest with you, we are already taking the necessary steps to avoid this by giving them some extra space in our new (still under construction) building.

Another important date is the 27th of December. On that day there won’t be any access to our website, our blog and any of our online services a

Looking for a unique jewelry design experience?

At i.materialise, we love introducing people to the wonders of 3D printing and the incredible experience of bringing unique designs to life. In order to reach more people than ever, we work hard to identify groups that have the potential to make great use of this technology and try to provide services to get them involved. An excellent example of this has been Sketch to 3D, which has allowed anyone with a great idea, a pencil, and a piece of paper, the chance to realize their design in 3D.

Now, we are proud to announce our newest service, Jewelco, which will give people the chance to design jewelry in collaboration with a pool of international designers. Jewelry is worn to celebrate events and commitments that are nearest and dearest to our hearts, so why not make sure the design really is the perfect fit with what it stands for and who it is worn by.

So, if you are looking for a unique piece of jewelry perfectly matched to your taste, and you would like to experience what jewelr

The Periodic Table of Materials

Last week we introduced our redesigned website and mentioned ”The Periodic Table of Materials”. Obviously, we were inspired by Dmitri Mendeleev and we figured something similar would be a nice way to present our 3D printing materials to you. Considering the fact we have a bunch of new materials available and will offer them in the future, we knew it would be easy to extend the table over time.

At the same time, we put a lot of effort into making detailed information pages about each material. This should help you find the material that best suits your needs as a designer or inventor.

So, we’ve described all the materials, made some sample pictures, collected information about coloring options, thought about the typical use of a certain material, and created videos about different 3D printing technologies. For steel and titanium we wrote design guides to get you on the right track. And we did even more, but we”d rather let you discover that for yourself.

PAL Robotics Makes A Case For A Perfect Synergy Between Robotics And 3D Printing

The era of robots is already here.

Over the last decade, robots have slowly moved from secluded research labs and automated production lines towards more interactive fields, such as pharmacies, hospitality, retail, etc. They can contribute towards high-quality products, shorter turnaround times in the manufacturing sector, and are usually highly reliable. Combined with AI, robots can successfully work with humans in more collaborative and interactive ways.
