Redesign Japanese and Korean Accessories for our new Challenge!
Have you ever imagined creating your very own version of a beautiful Japanese hairpins or a stunning brooch for your Korean hanbok? They had their design limitations then….but now with the 3D Print technology there is nothing called design barrier!
i.materialise, in cooperation with Materialise Malaysia and Japan, challenges you to recreate the traditional Japanese & Korean accessories using the 3D print technology. The winning entries will be part of the international exhibition in Japan!
Materialise will be hosting the North East Asia Conference (NEA) in Japan on the 5th and 6th of September.
This is the perfect opportunity for you to try out and explore the 3D printing technology and experiment with design.
THE CHALLENGE
For this competition, your challenge is to use 3D printing to recreate traditional Japanese or Korean accessories in 3D printed polyamide. Examples are the Japanese Netsuke, traditional hairpins and Korean Hanbok accessories.

iMakr store officialy open in London
From desktop 3D printers to 3D printed designs; iMakr London has got it all. We were present at the first opening night of the store in the heart of a creative London district.
For a long time the iMakr store in London didn’t want to reveil the exact adress of the store, but just a few days before we finally got the adress. As an online 3D printing service we just had to be part of it.
The excitement was building up by letting the people wait a little longer then expected, but it was worth it. Sylvain Preumont, the French entrepreneur that founded iMakr, opened the store officially and welcomed the people.
The store was packed and everyone was very excited to see Sam Cervantes, CEO of Solidoodle 3D printers, Adrian Bowyer, founder of the Reprap, the 3D scanner from IIIDEvolution and lovely creations including some 3D printed necklaces by Mark Bloomfield and Dario Scapitta.

Dezeen and Blurb launch magazine Print Shift
Dezeen launches Print Shift, a print-on-demand magazine about 3D printing produced in collaboration with cutting-edge publisher Blurb.
3D Printing is changing the lives of many people. For this reason Dezeen just launched a magazine to cover different aspects of the 3D printing world such as fashion, design, architecture and the medical industry. The Magazine features interviews with the key pioneers driving this strategic shift, including fashion designer Iris van Herpen and Belgium-based Materialise.
Our director, Miranda Bastijns, will be speaking at the press conference today to give everyone a heads up about 3D printing.
Print Shift is the result of extensive research into the 3D printing technology. Dezeen has spoken to architects, designers, scientists and researchers around the world, travelled across Europe and visited some of the leading studios and factories -such as Materialise– at the cutting edge of a technological revolution.

Amsterdam is getting ready for the first 3D printing exposition ever. The initiative comes from a bunch of creative entrepreneurs with a passion for 3D printing.

Accessory Challenge- Be inspired by birds

London calling: visit i.materialise at the 3D Printshow
Only ten more days to go and the 3D Printshow in London will start off for the first time. We, the i.materialise-team will be present so come and check us out at our booth or join one of our workshops.
The Brewery in London is getting ready for their first 3D Printing event ever. From the 19th until the 21st of October the days will be filled with workshops, seminars and live 3D printing shows.
Come check out our booth (K21): we will show you a selection of designs made by designers of our community such as the 3D printed retro Bioscope, designed by Jon Stam & Simon de Bakker and of course Josh Henry’s amphibious ‘Ula Miami Concept Car’ will be making its European debut at our booth! Who is….(y)our Product Designer?
Hi everyone!
It’s time to introduce myself. Tatiana, our community manager, has requested it already so many times that I lost count but here it goes. I’m Bert and have been working for Materialise for 3,5 years now. Until recently I only worked for .MGX by Materialise as a Product Development Specialist but now I also lend my services to i.materialise.
Mainly I have been working with designers from all over the world on luminaries and interior products for the .MGX Collection. I was involved in the development of the Cadence.MGX, the Gamete.MGX and the Dragonfly.MGX to name a few. With my knowledge of possibilities and limitations of the different 3D printing techniques, I ‘m well place to give assistance and guidance to the designers. For i.materialise I have developed the instructables, design guides for the new materials and I am working on other (behind the scene) products and material developments.

According to the Oxford dictionary, inspiration is the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. A few months ago I was wondering where (product) designers, artists and inventors get their inspiration. And now I thought it would be nice to see if I could find some more examples. As for now, I’ll just let the pictures do the talking.
Stories from the Materialise World Conference
The Materialise World Conference has kicked off with a bang and we’re here to tell you our stories. As you might have seen on our constant tweets, yesterday on April 18th, the Materialise World Conference finally opened the doors to its many guests. Amongst them were European President Herman Van Rompuy, countless world famous 3D printing companies and fashion icons like the master milliner Elvis Pompilio himself.
Together with its many successful clients, Materialise CEO Wilfried Vancraen showcased the current state of 3D Printing technology and did this through an extensive program that touches many different industries.
Of course we at i.materialise were also present and had the wonderful opportunity to be accompanied by some of our most dearest friends and designers. Amongst them were also some of the participants of the Hats off to 3D Printing Design Challenge.
