Danny van Ryswyk is i.materialise’s Designer of the Year 2014
Today we’re happy to announce the winner of the 2014 i.materialise “Designer of the Year Award”. After counting the votes of the jury it became clear that Danny van Ryswyk is the big winner of this year’s competition! Read on to learn more about Danny’s dark 3D designs and his first reaction after winning the title.
Our jury was especially impressed by Danny’s instantly recognizable style with its smooth surfaces, dark colors, and fine level of details. Danny creates stunning, surreal underground artworks with the aid of 3-dimensional software. His sculptures blend child-like fantasy with the macabre and the fantastical world of nightmares. His work is dark, brooding, and a mysterious fusion of dream imagery and Victorian portraiture.
As part of his prize, Danny will receive a 200€ i.materialise voucher, a 1-year Instructables Pro account, an Autodesk 123D Premium Membership for a year, a t-shirt from the Autodesk shop, and of course our 3D printed trophy. Here is Danny’s first reaction after winning the title:
“My most sincere thanks for choosing my artwork in this year’s contest. I would like to take this opportunity to make my compliments to i.materialise for their professionalism and high quality output of 3D Printed models.
For me as a digital artist it has been of great value to work with a team of people who help me with my efforts to visualize my otherworldly fantasies and pushing the boundaries of 3D Printed artworks.”
– Danny van Ryswyk

Canadian jewelry designer Negar Jazbi will also receive an i.materialise printing voucher for her talents in overcoming the boundaries between art and mathematics and for providing us with creative and distinctive jewelry creations. Once again we would like to thank our three nominees and also the entire i.materialise 3D printing community for your trust and loyalty. This award is also a reminder for all of us that 3D printing lives through great ideas and creative minds.
