Negar Jazbi is the Third and Last Nominee for the i.materialise Designer of the Year Award
After revealing Adrian Gögl and Danny van Ryswyk as the first two nominees for the i.materialise Designer of the Year Award, we are excited to announce that Canadian jewelry designer Negar Jazbi will be the third and last nominee. Negar runs the Designeradesigns label where she creates and sells stunning 3D Printed jewelry. Read on to see some of her amazing work and stay tuned for our announcement of the final winner on Friday, February 6th.
Negar’s passion for design is rooted in her family tree of designers, engineers and mathematicians. She too, is a bit of all three. She holds degrees in Architecture, Mathematics and Environmental Design and has spent the last ten years studying and working in the field of design. Her debut jewelry collection reflects her problem solving skills and her passion for the mathematics of design. Patterns and puzzles are her muse. For her, every design challenge – regardless of the scale – from architecture to jewelry, is a puzzle that can be solved once the right pattern is designed.
Her curiosity about 3D Printing technology and its promise as the right tool for the next big design revolution led her to design on a smaller scale for the sake of efficiency. She started exploring the distinction between ornament and structure, which has been the center of debate in design circles throughout history.
With 3D design platforms as her drawing board, Negar was no longer restricted to just the two dimensions of paper. And with 3D Printers translating her designs into physical objects with an unprecedented level of detail and precision, she could see the line separating structure and ornament blurring, giving her the freedom to design structures that are ornamental and vice versa. Her new jewelry collection is inspired by this exploration.
Our jury was especially impressed by Negar’s ability to overcome the boundaries between art and mathematics and to provide us with creative and distinctive jewelry creations. We are therefore proud to announce Negar as the third nominee for the 2014 i.materialise Designer of the Year Award.
“It is an honor to be a candidate for the Designer of the Year Award by i.materialise. Over the past few months, the i.materialise team has helped my business greatly with their great craftsmanship and attention to details. When it comes to jewelry design, details are everything. And the i.materialise team has been nothing but helpful and cooperative when it comes to pushing the boundaries in 3D Printing.
Some of my designs could not be realized if it was not for their willingness to challenge their own set rules and test the limits of this new industry. So it makes me super excited that our successful collaboration has led to such recognition. Thank you i.materialise team!”
