Speaker Spotlight: Zbyněk Krulich on “Our Printed Dream”

The Materialise World Conference is fast approaching and we would like to take this opportunity to present some of the inspiring speakers who will illustrate the many ways that 3D Printing services and solutions can add value in the realm of consumer products. See them in person on April 24th and 25th in Belgium and participate in our two-day program of workshops and conferences that will give you inspiration and the technical know-how to turn your ideas into 3D Printed reality.

This week, our featured presenter is designer Zbyněk Krulich, co-founder of jewelry brand and e-shop blueberries.

Zbyněk Krulich

After graduating from Prague’s Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in 2011, Zbyněk Krulich partnered with Kristýna Malovaná to establish Morphe, a design studio based in Prague, Czech Republic that specializes in product, furniture and interior design. Then in 2012, Krulich co-founded the 3D Printed jewelry brand blueberries together with jewel-maker Markéta Richterová. Their first collection of jewels produced using 3D Printing technology was presented at the Designblok 12 exhibition in Prague.

Zbyněk’s work takes simple, minimalist ideas to new levels by bringing an air of strength and sophistication to them. If he’s not in his office, Zbyněk takes his laptop to the Mistral Café in Prague for meetings and inspiration: “I like Mistral’s interior. From a design perspective, it’s one of my favorite places.”

Only a few months after launching blueberries, Zbyněk and Markéta won “Best Jewelry Designer of the Year” at the Czech Grand Design Awards. Since then, blueberries has appeared at several exhibitions and lectures such as designSUPERMARKET, Design Weekend Košice, Together Again, and Pecha Kucha Night.

Blueberries is well known for the precise organic and geometrical forms of their jewelry. The duo’s inspiration comes primarily from natural structures, both organic and inorganic. In their work they play with light, matter, composition, scale, and geometry as can be observed in the video below. The designs are then 3D Printed and sold through their online shop.

The latest collection was made of nylon, with the jewels light and flexible, and velvet matting. More recently, jewels made of transparent acrylate, stainless steel, silver, and gold were added to the collection.
