We’re all makers here: Listen to the inspiring story of the Maker revolution

There’s a movement among us. I’m sure you’ve heard of it at one point or another. If you haven’t heard it by this particular name, you most likely will. It’s called the Maker Movement.

The Movement harkens back to a time when we made things ourselves, when we were more in touch with how things are designed, made and tinkered with. Now we are reliving this with 3D printing: things are made in smaller batches again. Customized.

This video, ‘We Are Makers’ tells the story of the Maker Movement. The description on the site says this: “It’s the story not of tools but of people. A publisher. An entrepreneur. A design professor. A middle school teacher. Two museum educators. And a creative director.

Each provides an important viewpoint on why new technologies such as 3D printing and communities of making are bringing us back to something deeply human.”

The video features interviews with people like Dale Dougherty, founder of MAKE Magazine; Raphael Abrams from NYC Resistor, a hacker collective; Randy Hunt from the site Etsy, an online marketplace where handmade items are sold; and Lizabeth Arum, a curriculum coordinator at MakerBot.

People are the future of making. Technologies like 3D printing help move it along in totally new and amazing ways — and the potential for creating is only going to grow as more materials become available. What do you think about this video and the future of making? Do you consider yourself a Maker?
