The Ultimate Maker Faire List for 2014
With i.materialise recently attending Maker Faire Bay Area in May, it only seemed logical to provide our community with a list of upcoming Maker Faires! This list includes the larger events, but there are also hundreds of smaller, community-based, independent Maker Faires happening around the world, all year long. There are more than enough Faires to get you through the rest of year.
New to the Maker movement? It’s a celebration of invention and creativity that brings together tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors or all ages!
July 26-27th
The museum that pays to tribute to Henry Ford’s ingenuity, “The Henry Ford,” will host Maker Faire Detroit. This two day festival will feature over 400 makers and their ideas, inventions, and solutions. This Faire focuses on engineering creativity, coupled with many fashionable and unique finds!
August 29-30th
Trondheim Makers, in association with Young Entrepreneurship, several schools, and many local companies, is pleased to bring this event to creative makers. This member-based organization focuses primarily on children and youth, and seeks to promote creative growth at an early age.
September 13-14th
Maker Faire Orlando is growing in popularity, in square footage, and in maker exhibits. It is also boasts being among the only 12 “Featured” Maker Faire events in the world! Special features of this faire also include outdoor exhibits, an earth-friendly recycling area, and a special program for educators.
September 14
Held at the KID Museum in Montgomery County (a brand new hands-on learning center), this faire is an event for all ages. Aimed at cultivating creative minds through the sense of touch and feel, this maker faire melds together technology, art, science, and craft.
September 20-21st
New York City is known as a Melting Pot for many reasons, and the World Maker Faire New York upholds this proud tradition. This maker faire is well loved, and well-known, for embracing anyone and everyone as long as their creative spirit precludes them.
September 27-28th
This will be Milwaukee’s first maker’s faire, and the city would love to welcome creatives to join them in making this an exciting annual event. Held on the same weekend as Harvest Fair, the maker’s faire is sure to draw large crowds who are eager to learn what they can about the world of creative designs.
October 3-6th
This European maker’s faire has but one rule: you are allowed and encouraged to touch everything. This faire focuses on the digital world, and is thrilled to host seasoned makers alongside newcomers who are just experimenting to see what peaks their interests.
October 4-5th
Although the Atlanta Maker Faire has over 10,000 attendees and is considered a top “Featured Faire”, those feats are not what they are most proud of. This faire is community-oriented, and one of only three in the world to offer free attendance! Moreover, Maker Faire Atlanta is the only recognized featured faire in the southeast US.
