3D print an entire coffee table in one piece
Check out the video to see how we 3D print an entire coffee table in one piece.
The Module by design label .MGX, designed by celebrated designers WertelOberfell–Platform is printed in one piece our Stratasys FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) machines. The coffee table is based on fractal growth patterns in trees and designed specifically to minimize waste. Individual Module coffee tables can be intertwined in order to get just the size of table you need.
The machine used in the video is the Stratasys FDM Maxum, one of the largest 3D printers in existence with a build volume of 600 by 500 by 600 mm. I hope the video does the scale of the thing justice, I could sit in it if I dared.
Our parent company Materialise has the largest FDM capacity in the world outside Stratasys itself. We have over 20 FDM systems, the majority of them the huge Maxum machines. The FDM production people are also currently trying to be patient while they wait for capacity to increase yet again so they can get a new Stratasys Fortus 900MC, an even larger machine.
Stratasys machines are reliable and relatively easy to operate. Their biggest advantage is that the parts made with the machines have a high degree of dimensional accuracy. The ABS plastic the parts are made of is also strong but the surface finish is less pretty than parts made with other processes.
ABS is a good material for functional items and things such as Remote Control aircraft, robots & engineering parts.
At i.materialise you can get your ABS 3D prints in 7 different colored materials: white, black, blue, red, yellow, green and two greys. Additionally we can paint your part mat, satin, high gloss, soft touch & dead mat in the colors: white, black, blue, green, yellow, grey, red, orange and brown. If you want a unique color we can also by special request paint your part any color but this will be more expensive.
To give you even more options we also offer the polycarbonate material on these machines. That comes in one color, white but we can paint it in all the same colors as we can the ABS materials. We also have, per special request the ABS M30 materials (75% stronger than regular ABS), Ultem 9085 (special material for lightweight applications such as inside commercial aircraft) and more.
Enjoy the film!
