10 Things to See and Do at Maker Faire Detroit
We’re excited to announce that the Maker Faire is coming back to Detroit, Michigan for the 5th year in a row. We are grateful to be a part of this event and are looking forward to sharing our passion for 3D printing with you. The event will be held at The Henry Ford on July 26 & 27. Over 400 makers are expected to participate sharing their passion for cars, robotics, electronics, rockets, fashion, art and science! If you have a DIY mindset and love to tinker, hack and invent, here are 10 reasons to attend.
1. The LifeSize Mousetrap
See the world’s largest Mouse Trap board game! This 25 ton Rube Goldbeg uses pulleys levels and the Newtonian physics to create an incredible visually stunning work of engineering inspired art.
2. Build your own model truck
Love working with your hands? Construct a Truck USA will give you a chance to build your own truck on their mobile assembly line! Check out the finished Model B Truck below.
3. Detroit’s Theatre Bizarre
Experience Detroit’s legendary, illegal, underground Halloween masquerade, Theatre Bizarre. They will be performing their favorite acts…expect flamethrowers.
4. Power Wheel Racing Championship
Experience the world’s only $500 electric motorsport celebrating their 6th year of competition. In the Power Wheel Racing, all of the challengers have created a working electric vehicle for under $500. Both creativity and ingenuity are encouraged so don’t be surprised if you see LEDs tied to the hoods of the cars which are sprinkled with glitter. In addition, competitors get bonus points for entertaining the crowd, so everybody wins!
5. i.materialise stand
Visit our stand and get the latest scoop on the exciting world of 3D printing. We will be showing chainmail armor samples, 3D printed metals and “moving part” designs. A brand new addition to our stand will be the showcase of new polyamide and ceramic colors. We can’t wait to see you!
6. EepyBird with Coke and Mentos
What happens when you combine 200 liters of Diet Coke and over 500 Mentos mints? A visual treat! Top Scientists/Entertainers from EeepyBird will give a demonstration of epic proportions.
7. The Nerdy Derby
Are your kids DIY savvy? Sign them up for The Nerdy Derby! It’s a no-rules miniature car building and racing competition inspired by the Cub Scouts’ Pinewood Derby. With a larger, more undulating track and no restrictions on the size of the cars or materials participants can use, the Nerdy Derby rewards creativity, cleverness and ingenuity.
8. Passion, Creativity, Determination: Bringing the Razor Crazy Kart to Market
See an inspiring presentation form Ali Kermani, Product Designer, Brand Manager and VP of Digital Media at Razor USA, LLC creator of the Razor Crazy Cart. Ali will give real-life examples of what it took to realize his vision, as well as some fun and innovative insights about how he successfully developed a viral marketing campaign to promote the Crazy Cart.
9. “America’s Got Talent” contestant and Michigan maker The Sprice Effect
Michigan’s own Steve Price will be sharing a form of kinetic art best described as a chair reaction machine, The Sprice Effect. Steve will seek to inspire others by showing how to explore their individual creativity and build chain reaction machines with everyday objects.
10. Live performance by Dear Darkness
If you’re in the mood for live music, stop by to see Detroit’s Dear Darkness which will perform a live set on Saturday.
