Meet the designer: Elise Luttik
Meet Industrial Designer Elise Luttik from Amsterdam, founder of eli5e, a design studio specialized in 3D printed designs that will make you smile.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Elise:«I am an Industrial Designer living in Amsterdam. I love to design, dance and travel. Currently I enjoy creating 3D printed designs that make people smile.»
What do you do in your everyday life?
Elise:«In everyday life I create 3D printed designs. My inspiration to start using 3D printing came to me at the SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas. I see 3D printing as a sustainable driver for my design studio. I think it is great that as a start-up you get the opportunity to develop high quality products without the need for big investments.»
Where did you grow up?
Elise:«I was born and raised in Amsterdam. The city has a lot to offer, also nowadays, with respect to design and 3D printing. There are lots of gatherings and exhibitions organised throughout the year.»
When did you start being interested in design?
Elise:«My love and talent for design developed greatly during my Master study Integrated Product Design at the Technical University of Delft. Their faculty of Industrial Design Engineering is a highly inspiring and innovative place. I enjoy going back once in a while to attend Master Classes on topics such as Design for Emotion.»
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Elise:«I get inspiration during my trips abroad. Foreign cultures inspire me to change my view on daily matters. I always carry my little sketchbook with me, so whenever an idea pops up, I make sure to write it down or draw a quick sketch.»
Can you describe your style in just a few words?
Elise:«I like to add an emotional and playful touch to my designs. The Twin Ristretto set for instance is about spending some dedicated time with a beloved one. The product is facilitating a treasured moment for two.»
Was it easy to start off in the beginning? How did you try to get your name out?
Elise:«3D printing has made it easier to realise my ideas into products. My principal channels for exposure of my collection are the websites I created: www.eli5e.nl and www.facebook.com/eli5edesigns.
Complete this sentence: 3D printing for me is…
Elise:«…the perfect match.»
If you had the freedom of designing anything you want, what would it be?
Elise:«I think 3D printing already gives lots of freedom compared to the more traditional mass production methods. In the near future, I would love to make some 3D printed designs made from scented, fluorescent or recycled materials.»
What materials do you like the most and why?
Elise:«I like to work with white polyamide (polished or unpolished) since it has a natural classic look. Plus it is a strong, high quality material.»
Where can we find more of your work?
Elise:«You can find more of my work at www.eli5e.nl and you can stay up to date via www.facebook.com/eli5edesigns.»
How do you see your future? Do you want to go further with your designs or do you want to try other things?
Elise:«I will definitely continue to put my creative thoughts into designs. And of course I am always keen on taking on new challenges.»
