Description

Valentine Gear Sphere is a piece of mathematical kinetic art. It is a set of heart-shaped gears spinning around in a planetary-gear configuration on a sphere. The turning of the hearts is eccentric. As a result, the hearts wobble up and down, and the distance between their rotation centers vary during the rotation.

The creation of this work was inspired by Michael Valle's Happy Valentine's Day planetary gear system. The algorithm used to design the gear curves was derived from watching Michael Valle's Gearify Astronomer tutorials.
