Description

Phinary Trees is an exponential puzzle, of which the base is phi, the golden ratio, 1.618... All pieces are identical or mirror images. For every piece added, the number of moves to solve the puzzle grows with a factor phi. The rule of this puzzle is 0010-0011. That is, a piece can only change state if its three upper neighbours are in the states 0,0,1. This puzzle was the result of an exploration by Iwahiro, Goetz Schwandnter and Bram Cohen. Bram designed a related puzzle, Binary Combs, which is also phinary, and for which the rule is 00*010-00*011. Here the "*" symbol indicates a wild card, which can be either 0 or 1.
