Description

Long Shot is a twisty puzzle that was inspired by Greg Pfennigs fantastic and absolutely crazy 1x2x111. However, Greg's design felt a bit like cheating, as his puzzle has magnets, and it can easily be taken apart. Without the magnets, the puzzle would immediately fall apart. So the challenge was to find a mechanism that stays together, and that can be extended as long as one we like.

The solution was a twisty puzzle that slides and twists. Four pieces hold together with interlocking square spiral. Different layers hold together with square dovetails. The puzzle can be made infinitely long in theory. 2x2x7 sufficed for this proof of concept.

Please contact me if you want to sponsor an extended version of this puzzle, longer than Greg's unofficial world record, and have your name associated with the establishment of the world's longest twisty puzzle.
