Description

Inward Ring was co-designed with puzzle-ring artist Yael Friedman, from a design challenge by her. Whereas the classic three-piece Magic Disk puzzle opens by moving the pieces outward (e.g. via centrifugal force), Yael wanted a similar ring that opens by moving the pieces inward. This was achieved by making a large hole in the middle and changing the shape at the middle layers to block outward movement. Several rounds of prototyping were needed to get the shape of the pieces right, such that they can swivel after moving inward and then get separated.
