Minimum Print Dimensions in DMLS

When speaking to another DMLS printing company, they claimed that printing my part in Stainless would require a minimum orifice diameter of 0.030" (0.76mm). The problem is my part is a high pressure fluid nozzle that has passage features that are down to 0.005" (0.127mm).

Is it possible to print features this small with DMLS printing?

If you can, I’m thinking titanium. This will be running 800 PSI water glycol.

Thanks!

Hello, our minimum detail size for Titanium is 0.5 mm. For more information you can check out https://i.materialise.com/en/3d-printing-materials/titanium. For Stainless steel it would be 0.3 mm. You can also find the information about Stainless Steel on our website on https://i.materialise.com/en/3d-printing-materials/high-detail-stainless-steel

I see, in titanium, that the minimum wall thickness is 0.5mm, but that the minimum detail dimension is 0.25mm. Could you explain what qualifies as a detail? I’m looking at a narrow orifice for a coolant nozzle.

Stainless will not work for me, due to the print dimension restrictions.

Is there an email that I can send an STL file to, for someone at Materialise to take a look at?

Hello,

thank you for your question.

Detail sizes refer to the distance between the wall of your model and the surface of your detail. If you want to share the file with us, please send a request via Online Contact Form at our website https://i.materialise.com/en/contact. You have an option to attach the file to your request. In case the file is too heavy it is advisable to use WeTransfer service to share the file with us. We will check your file for feasibility to print in Titanium within a day and provide you with our feedback.

I do not see an Online Contact Form. Nothing comes up when I type it in the search box either.

If you mean the “How Can We Help You?” fields, where it is asking for name, email address, etc., it is asking for an Order Reference Number or an Offline Price Request Number. I do not have either.

I have the file uploaded and in my shopping cart, but I’m not seeing any options for sending it anywhere.

If I am not getting any errors when I upload my file, should I just assume that Materialise can make it?

You are right, you need to have placed an order or an offline price request. in case you did not place any order, please use the following form https://imaterialise.helpjuice.com/contact-us to contact us. If you indicated the file name, which you have uploaded, we will be able to find it in our system or to share your file using WeTransfer link.

In case you need any assistance, please feel free to contact us again.
