Description

This kit is designed to convert the 3500g tender as fitted to either the Hornby 00 GWR 28XX or 2884 Class 2-8-0 and comprises the , tank and the feed pipe. The latter is attached to the main tank by a short sprue. Please note that this will not fit the 3500g without removable coal or tender driven models.

History:

In Britain, between 1945 & 1947 coal was in short supply. With the Railways probably being the largest users in the country. So the government encouraged them to convert some of their locomotives to burn oil. A short video on this subject can be found at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qISLfouQJIw.

During this time the locos were renumbered into the 48XX series as follows:

Churchward 28XX

2832 - 4806, 2834 - 4804, 2839 - 4808, 2845 - 4809, 2847- 4811, 2848 - 4807,

2849 - 4803, 2853 - 4810, 2854 - 4801, 2862 - 4802, 2863 - 4805, 2872 - 4800.

Collett 2884

2888 - 4850, 3813 - 4855, 3818 - 4852, 3820 - 4856, 3831 - 4857, 3837 - 4854,

3839 - 4853, 3865 - 4851.

Instructions:

  1. First  removed all the support mesh, used during the printing process, being careful not to damage any of the fine detail;
  2. Next separate the feed pipe from the tank (see fourth image) and and remove all traces of the joining sprue;
  3. The coal in the tender must then be pried out to allow the fitting of the tank;
  4. The shorter end of the feed pipe is then located into the round socket towards the back of the tank so that the longer end rests on the top of the tender next to the large dome. The pipe's short end  and the socket have a square end and hole to ensure the pipe is perpendicular to the back of the tank (see photo of finished tender).
  5. This pipe should be glued in place using a small drop of superglue as it will drop out easily if the model is turned upside down. I would recommend that this is done while the tank is insitu without getting any glue on the tender. This is to ensure that the pipe just touches the tender top and does not lift the end of the tank.

Railway modelling is very much a hobby of mine, and having created 3D printed models and components for my own use, I felt some might be useful to other modelers. I have therefore created this shop to give fellow enthusiasts the opportunity to order my models from I.materialise following Shapeways closure. The items available range from kits requiring several prints to individual components designed to add detail or variety to proprietary models produced by major manufacturers. Unless otherwise stated the models below are for 1:76 (4mm/foot) scale in "00" gauge.
