GWR Dean 8' 6_ Bogie

Description

00 Gauge, 1:76, 4mm/Foot

Having been dissatisfied with the non-prototypical standard BR Mk 1 bogie fitted to the Triang/Hornby non-corridor GWR Clerestory Coach, I designed this replacement bogie. It is based on the GWR Dean 8' 6" bogie without running boards.

The bogie is easily fitted to the later Hornby versions of the coach as this and the original bogies are a simple push fit. However, On earlier versions the original bogie is held on by a large brass rivit which will need to be removed. Once removed the new bogie is a simple push fit as with the later coaches.

In designing this bogie I have included NEM pockets to allow a choice of couplings* (something not possible with the original). These will have to be obtained separately.

To complete the bogie you will need four 2mm "top hat" brass bearings per bogie, and some 12mm pinpoint wheel-sets with 26mm long axles. Although these bogies were developed for use with Dapol 3 hole disc wheels (ref WHEELSDISC) the original metal Hornby wheels from the later models can be reused although these are a little looser than the Dapol versions (Note I have only tried the above  Dapol' , new Hornby Metal wheels and the old Hornby Silver seal versions).

Also available in this shop are interiors for both the brake and composite coaches.

* This product was designed for use with the Hornby R8268 and R8276, large and medium width couplings and will also work with the R8219 Hornby NEM coupling.  However it will not work with the R8220 Hornby NEM pocket close coupling. Also, this bogie has not been tested using Kadee or any other type of coupling.

Railway modelling is very much a hobby of mine, and having created 3D printed models and components for my own use, I felt some might be useful to other modelers. I have therefore created this shop to give fellow enthusiasts the opportunity to order my models from I.materialise following Shapeways closure. The items available range from kits requiring several prints to individual components designed to add detail or variety to proprietary models produced by major manufacturers. Unless otherwise stated the models below are for 1:76 (4mm/foot) scale in "00" gauge.
