Preferred material for a housing that contains a LoRaWAN and a GPS antenna

Hi,

First post here. I’ve searched your forum but could not find an answer.

I’m designing a housing for some electronic sensors. The recorded data will be sent by a LoRaWAN antenna (868 MHz) and one of the sensors uses a GPS (approx. 1.2 - 1.6 GHz) to determine the location and/or travel speed.

Which printing materials will produce the least attenuation of those radio waves?

Kind regards,
Bart

Hello Bart,

Thank you for your interest in our company.
As far as your questions are concerned, the plastics that we offer on i.materialise will have similar behavior (SLS and MJF).
Alumide will probably score worse because of it’s low percentage Aluminium particles.
You can always find the technical specifications on our website.

Have a nice day.

Hi Esther,

Thanks. That confirms what I could find on the internet. Materials with metal content will obviously function worse, and material with high Carbon content might also be less suited, but that’s hard to judge since manufacturers may use slightly different material properties.

If anyone reading this has something to add from their experience with electronics and data transmission via radiowaves, I’d welcome such comments very much.

Kind regards,
Bart
