Plastic in contact with food

I was wondering. If you create a 3d printed model, lets say a dinner plate is that safe to use in terms of spoiled food? I mean your model is printed/ melted with plastics and afterwards it will be in contact with food maybe for a few days or with different room temperatures (imagine a pie on a plate in the fridge for a few days). Will there not be like some chemical process transferring toxics to the food?
Thank you for any insights!

Hey Jurgen,

That’s an important question. Certain chemical reactions or mechanical transfer of undesirable micro elements from a 3D printed part to food may indeed happen. That’s why we do not recommend using the printed parts for food applications and clearly state that the materials used are “Not food safe” whenever possible.
