Last week we introduced a new trial material for full-color 3D printing: Multicolor+.
This new material uses Mimaki’s UV curable inkjet printing. The technology is similar to inkjet 2D printing technology and makes use of UV curable inks that are hardened with UV light. Successive layers of curable ink are printed on top of each other until the desired design is completed. A water-soluble support material is used to build overhanging elements and is removed after the printing process. Mimaki’s UV Inkjet technology will replace the previous ColorJet technology.
What does the “+” stand for?
- Brighter colors
- Stronger material (using plastic instead of plaster)
- Better surface quality
- Detailed designs
- Thinner walls (up to 1 mm walls)
- The possibility to print interlocking parts
- High water resistance (the material is splash proof)
