Help creating a custom bendy figurine

Hi there:

I feel like I’m hitting a bit of a dead end in my research, and I’m looking for some help.

I’m looking to make full-color figures of high-profile politicians (starting with Trump) as part of an effort to raise money for good causes and help put pressure on our politicians to effect positive change. The idea is similar to the linked initiatives at the bottom of this message, except that I’m coming at it from a slightly different angle.

The ultimate goal is to make a figure that’s bendable (like Gumby figurine with internal wire frame) based off the following design: https://sketchfab.com/models/171bc1f8894a4dfebd0c8c34522b57a3 I haven’t bought the design yet, because I’m trying to find the right person to help me create a prototype and then find someone to work with to create the bendy figurine in bulk. That and I don’t even know if a .OBJ file is the right type, nor do I know how to convert it to the right type if it isn’t.

Once that’s all sorted out, I’d need help producing this on a large scale for distribution.

Is i.materialise the right place to bring such a project to life? If not, could you all help point me in the right direction?

Hi Michael,

The only full color material that we offer is Multicolor+ and it can be used to produce requested design. However this material is not bendable. 3D printed Multicolor+ has a layered buildup which is visible when looking closely. I would advise you to order a sample model first to make sure it meets your expectations. The model should be designed according to the rules of the design guide: https://i.materialise.com/en/3d-printing-materials/multicolor-plus/design-guide. Hollowing the model helps to reduce the price.

Thank you for your help Tetiana. Once you 3D print a prototype and it’s acceptable, would you be able to recommend places that do injection molding to help me create a full-color bendable figurine with internal wire frame?

we don’t offer injection molding and unfortunately I cannot advise you on this.
