Hello help with steel printing

Hello
I designed 2 parts that i want to print in Steel with gold platten and then polish it.
Each part is one half of a hallow ball, lower and upper.
Ball diameter is ~50.8 mm, with shell thickness of 3.5 mm.
Two parts of the ball will be connected with a hinge that is part of the design.
I attached sketches of the parts and their assembly.

My questions are:

  1. As you wrote here: link
Steel 3D printing has 1% accuracy. does it mean that the other diameter of the ball will be in the tolerance: 50.8*0.01~0.5 ?
    50.3 < Ball’s diameter < 51.3

  2. Do you think the tolerance of the hinge is enough or you think i should change it ?

  3. What do you think of the overall 3D printing design, from your experience, how do you think the final part will be ?

Thank you for the help !!

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in our service.

Regarding the tolerance you are right.

But I should inform you that we cannot guarantee form fits and this as far as I understand the main requirements in this model.

Best regards,
Anna

Thank you for the answer.
Can you guarantee that the if print 2 same parts, lets the upper half ball that has a diameter of 50.8 mm
The two parts diameter will be between this tolerance:
50.3 mm < Balls diameter < 51.3 mm

?

Hello,
As the production of your model involves a thermal step, shrinkage is something you should take into account.
Unfortunately, the dimensional accuracy is something we cannot guarantee.

Best regards,
Anna
