Gripping Rack by OSKAR

Hi iMaterialise fans,

Gripping Rack is a rack-and-pinion variation of Henry Segerman’s Gripping Gears. The pinion gear rolls over (or under) the rack gear while staying together. A mechanism with pins and grooves prevents the parts from coming apart. So the pinion gear can be rolled off only at the two ends of the rack. As usual, this is a gearing mechanism without a purpose, other than being interesting from a mechanical and mathematical point of view. Do you know any useful application?
