Gold plating thickness

Hi, how thick (provide a range if necessary) is the gold layer on gold plated brass? Need to know to factor in for tolerances for a model.

Dear Jeff,

The gold layer that we put on brass is very, very thin.

Greetings

Esther

Hi Esther,

Very thin is good yet I need an actual number I can factor into my model. Can you provide me with an appropriate measurement please? Thanks.

I can’t say what plating thickness i.materialise are using, but for gold it’s probably going to be somewhere between 0.1 - 1 micron.

That’s true, the gold plating thickness is measured in microns. In other words - it is neglectable, no need to factor it into 3D model.

Hello, could you tell me what plating thickness i.materialise are using exactly for gold plated because there is a strict legislation in France about precious metals and I didn’t find any information about it on your website. Thank you very much.

Hello Victoria,

Please be advised that the gold plating thickness may not be uniform all over the model and depends on the complexity of its geometry. However, for precious metails the layer thickness is max 0.2µm.
