CUT/PUNCH; not able to make Poly line

Hello,

I am not able to make Polyline in my Cut/Punch option,
when I select the indicate polyline, I see a white rectangle on the side of the cursor. But when i click somewhere it changes to red circular shape and the line is not visible. Please suggest how can I proceed.
