Bronze Castings

Hi. I am trying to produce some parts for a locomotive model. I’ve tried sending my first drawing to customer support but the enquiry system won’t work without an order number or an offline quote number but I cant work out how to generate the latter. So here are my questions.

Scaling the prototype will produce web thicknesses of less than 0.5 mm so I have adjusted them to 0.75 mm. what is the minimum recommended thickness or aspect ratio.

I have assumed a machining allowance of 0.5 mm n mating faces but this may not be necessary. Assuming you add a shrinkage allowance. How accurate are the parts after casting.

Some of the parts I need will have voids or cylindrical holes. These would normally be achieved by inserting ceramic cores into the wax part. Is this something you can do or do I need to break the assembly down into smaller parts.

Dear John,

We appreciate your interest in printing your model at i.materialise.

There is an alternative way to share the file with us - via WeTransfer service. Send your request along with the generated WeTransfer link via the following form https://imaterialise.helpjuice.com/contact-us?contact_query=Please%20enter%20your%20question

The minimum recommended wall thickness to produce the untreated Bronze parts is 0.6 mm. The parts in Bronze are produced with the accuracy ±5% (with a lower limit of ±0.15 mm). More information about the design requirements can be found at our website https://i.materialise.com/en/3d-printing-materials/bronze/design-guide

In case you need the part to have holes on the particular areas, you need to design them on yourside. To provide you with the extenssive advice, we need to take a look at the model.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,
Olha
