Are supports needed and is a multipart model possible?

I’m new to 3d printing but I’ve done enough research to know that supports are needed for certain parts with overhangs. My first question is do I need to add these to my digital model myself or do you do it with your own software.

Secondly, is possible to print out a model made of several components in a single file. My current project is made of several pieces which I would like to paint separately then assemble into the final model using a series of pins and slots that would join them together. Some of these pieces such as the pins are 3mm in diameter which is the minimum size for SLS which I intend to use. Are there any issues with shipping these tiny pieces or is that all fine.

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in our company.
To answer your first question, you need to add the supports yourself. i.materialise does not offer this.

About your 2nd question, I will send you a link to the design guide of sls polyamide where you can find the answer : https://i.materialise.com/en/3d-printing-materials/polyamide/design-guide
You can group models as shown on the picture, or you can upload each model separately, but it is important to respect the dimensions, wall thickness, …

As far as the shipping issues are concerned, our shipment department is used to send out these kind of orders.

Hello,

I would like to give you a bit more information about your question of overhangs.
We take care of it, you do not need to do anything. But if you need supports (connections) to make a grouped model, you need to create it yourself in your 3d-file.

I hope that it’s more clearly now. If not, please do not hesitate to contact us.
