Hi all,

Last week, we have closed our World of Houses challenge  for SketchUp users.

First of all, congratulations to all participants – the overall quality of your designs was very high and you made great use of our plugin.

Our jury members  (Aidan Chopra, Mike Lucey and Fried Vancraen) found it very hard to make a selection :).

They evaluated every creation based on the quality and creativity of the design, on the story behind it and on the 3D printability of the model.

Here are the winners:
  1. V Haus by Gino Lomeli
  2. Living between curves by OzBoz
  3. Café Alpha by sirrozha

Congrats guys! You will soon receive a 3Dprinted scale model of your design.

We also give away a public 3D printed prize, which goes to Socks for his two bed apartment entry – you showed us great motivation by submitting several high level designs.

We want to thank you all though, therefore every participant will get a nice discount at i.materialise and the ten first submission will get another 3D printed surprise.

Stay tuned for new great challenges from i.materialise!

Awesome!! Thank you guys! I'm so curious about how it will be in 3D :) Can't wait to see it!

Awesome. Well done to the winners and others involved. I am sure its about participation more than winning as it allows i.materilaise and others to realise sketchup 3D modelling power and whether they can match it by its 3D printing capabilities. These competitions are held to allow room for improvements to technologies.

I am thrilled and will wait anxiously for the printed surprise. Many thanks for holding this challenge. What other challenges have you guys got install for us next?

Guys,

It will take us a couple of days to fix (prepare) the models for 3D printers and a couple of days on top of that to actually 3D print them. We will post the pictures as soon as they are ready to our blog.

We are not yet decided about our next challenge. Any ideas here?

Thanks to everyone for participation :)

Hey Alex,

I wait with patience ;) But I never saw a real 3D print before, only images. But what kind of material is it? How strong etc. I was thinking for the next contest but hard to think of something. I mean, maybe you can create also 3D print rings/bracelets or something like that but I don't know how strong it is and if you can really design something small to use or does it have to be more of a bookstand format?

I am thrilled to be given the public 3D printed price. Can you tell me what it is? Is it a prize or price? Interesting. Many thanks again.

What about a themed competition , ie Christmas since its just around the corner? Based on films character?

Congrats to you all! - I had a feeling Ozboz's model would be in the top 3 - very creative! Personally i am gutted i found out about this contest to late to complete and enter my designs - any chance you would do another 'architecture' based contest? this time maybe a themed one (historic, famous building, wacky, eco build...etc) Fingers crossed for a second chance(!)

Another idea for a contest - 'Model a Scene' - could be an everyday street scene, famous still from a movie, a typical day at your job, day at the beach..etc, etc. Not sure if this would be hard for your printer to handle (lots of separate shapes/models within the model itself (people, animals, buildings, vehicles etc) so may be an idea to apply some conditions if it helps...?

@OzBoz
We do actually 3D print prototypes of rings and bracelets on occasion, so this is something we could do a challenge on, but to be honest plastic bracelets aren't very good if you consider the touch and feel, not just the looks. We will think of the options there though.

@Socks
Well, we will 3D print the two bedroom interior design that you've submitted, and as for a surprise we will produce a small 3D printed object for all of the participants. Our engineers finalize the design as I am typing this message, and once it is ready and 3D printed I will share the pictures, but again please be patient :)

@Christian
We are looking forward to the next challenge, and will possibly do another architecture related competition. So, hopefully you will have your chance to get your design in ;)

Wow....Just received the apartment 3D printing yesterday and the real thing in 3D is just awesome. Thanks you i.materilaise!!!!! The little 3D print gift with the tree, grass and car is a good attempt from you guys.....surely you could do better than that!

If you guys from i.materialise could add acetate or something similar to replicate glass to complete the windows on the model will make it fantastic!! Something to think about, hey!
