Bookend Challenge

15 May 2010 - 8 June 2010
Winners announced on our blog!
_____________________________________________

Design anything that would fit in 8x8x10 cm bounding box: characters, vehicles, abstract shapes etc. There are no limitations on your design ideas.

Make sure to follow these basic rules

  1. Comply with our terms and conditions section about challenges
  2. Login or register on i.materialise (the registration is free).
  3. Submit your design before June 5th

While submitting an entry to the challenge you will be required to provide a screenshot/render with preferable dimensions of 845 by 300 pixels, and a 3D model file and a short story about your model. Your model will not be available for public download, we will use it to evaluate your entry for 3D printing capability.

Our team will evaluate the models, pictures and stories and select 3 winners when the deadline for submission runs out. The winners will get their models 3D printed and delivered to them free of charge. You are welcome to make multiple entries.

For more information on Bookend design, please refer to our Create Your Own page.

Good luck to everyone!

I noted that the bounding box were previously 8x8x12?? Now its changed to 8x8x10? Have I read it incorrectly previously?

What about intellectual property rights, and will you market the products or does that optional
Martijn Tuesday, June 01, 2010 4:31 PM
Hi Guys,

thanks for joining the challenge!

@Socks, you're right, it said 8*8*12 before, but that was a mistake. sorry.

@Han, the intellectual property rights remain with you and we won't market the products. we only ask for permission to show the end result, so other people can see what is possible.

Thanks for the clarifications of the new bounding box size. Some of the earlier submission is based on the old 8x8x12 size. I assumed that you can accept the previous size to save me from resubmitting. Otherwise let me know.

@Socks

There is no need to resubmit your entries. Should you win, we will adjust them on our end.

hi, i submited an entry 2 days ago but i didn't receive a confirmation and it doesn't apear in the gallery too, did it worked anyway?
alex Thursday, June 03, 2010 9:28 AM
Hey mfleuret,

I sent you an e-mail about your submission, but I guess you have not received it. We could not open your stl file. You are welcome to send us the file via e-mail contact@i.materialise.com, so we can check it and add it to the challenge manually.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi, I just read that the deadline has been moved to Tuesday, 8 June 2010.
Does this mean we have to submit our designs BEFORE 8 June 2010 or does it include the 8th as well?
And is it midnight european time?
Thanks!

Can you post revised confirmations somewhere when you introduce new corrections to the challenge brief so competitors know what the changes are. ie the bounding box size and now the extension to the submission date. It saves people from having to re-read the challenge brief again.

@Moni
On Monday June 7th, 23:59 (GMT +1) the challenge entries will be closed.

@michael
We are working on improved notification engine. We have yet many new features to roll out. Thanks for your feedback.

@Alex: Thanks a lot for the answer.

@mary cherry
That is an awesome submission of the book worms. I like the cartoon character of it.

@Socks
Thank you. I put a lot of effort in the model. It started with the concept, then I made cartoonlike drawings of all sides and used that as the base for the 3D model, so the cartoon style could be preserved.
Thumbs up for you also: It seems that you have put a lot of effort in this contest, by coming up with so much variations to combine your logo and a bookend.

It's nice to see so many entries that play with both the bottom and side plane of the bookend.

@Alex
I think there were 2 other ideas we submitted but were not yet displayed? Anyway, it was fun creating them. Can't wait for the next challenge.
Alex Wednesday, June 09, 2010 10:18 AM
@Socks
Everything that we've got is in.

Thanks again to everyone for participation. We will select the winners and make an announcement as soon as possible, but it will take a couple of days for sure.

Aw, crap... there was a second challenge and I missed it! Is it possible to have email notifications or something for future challenges? I really enjoyed the last one.
