Trial for Prime Gray ending

Mid June we introduced a new 3D printing material on i.materialise, Prime Gray, as a trial for 1 month. Because we received a lot of positive feedback on the material, we extended the trial period with one extra month.

This means that next Tuesday the 16th of August, Prime Gray will be removed from the material options in the 3D print lab. We will then evaluate the past 2 months the material was offered and decide whether or not to introduce it as a definitive material. We will take our time to do so, which means somewhere between 2 or 4 weeks. So, if you really like it a lot, you can still place Prime Gray orders before next Tuesday.

Just to refresh your memory: Prime Gray is a highly detailed stereolithography material, shiny and classy looking for design and art pieces and as well as for characters. More information about the material will still be available here . Have you ordered Prime Gray models? What did and what didn’t you like about it? Let us know, we highly appreciate your feedback.

Rolling out a bigger shopping cart @i.materialise

Dear community members, your prayers have materialised today !

Well, at least some important ones.

Our shopping cart has been enlarged to hold as many models as you like.
This makes it easy to fill it up and reach the 100$/100€ order value free shipping limit.

We also repaved the way to the checkout and improved the easiness of adding earlier uploaded models to the cart.
Requesting offline prices for several difficult models can also be combined in 1 offline price request.
We will put those models back with a price tag on your personal shelf.

And yes, we implemented a test for WebGL.

Let me guide you through the latest update.

Where did my models go ?

2 New topics from the release front :

- Getting back to your uploaded designs
- Can you build models bigger than 1 meter ?

Getting back to your uploaded designs

We had several requests from people who wanted us to store their previously uploaded models in the 3D print lab. We”ve now made this possible for you.

But how ?

We got your previously uploaded models neatly stored in your profile, under the tab called “uploaded models”.
No need anymore to upload them again.
You can move them back into the 3D print lab using the button “add to 3D model workspace”.

In the 3D Print Lab you can start playing with scale, quantity, material to see the influence on the 3D printing price. You can then leave and return to your model later.

The only thing you should check is that you are logged in before you upload.
If you are not logged in, we cannot know it is you that uploaded the model and we can not store your model for you or allow you to retrieve it.

The models will stay available in your profile for at least 30 days, possibly longer, but we guarantee 30 days. We are working to extend the profile section with offline price requests and orders. Those extentions will become available during the summer holidays.

Can you build models bigger than 1 meter ?

Yes we can.

However our renewed scaler in the 3D Print Lab allows you to scale models to maximum of 1 meter.

Get in touch with us and request an offline price in case you need models bigger than 1 meter.

Models that are bigger than 1 meter will be downscaled to 1 meter automatically. That would be come in handy for life-sized SketchUp models. We could 3D print it brick by brick, but you probably are more interested in the scale model.

Maximum Dimension in Scaler of 3D Print Lab

The new 3D print lab

About 6 weeks ago we launched the first version of our new site. Since then we have been working very hard on our new and improved 3D print lab. We’ve been listening closely to your suggestions and we’re glad to say our website is still the easiest and fastest (no login required) way to check a price for your 3D models. While working on the new 3D print lab, we always had the idea in mind that uploading and ordering a 3D model should be as easy as customizing and buying a t-shirt online. I believe we’ve succeeded.

The 3D model workspace

The 3D model workspace is where you can upload your 3D model. Unlike the former 3D print lab, we now ask you if you created your model in mm or inches. This enables us to process your model in the correct dimensional units and prevents potential mix-ups.

Material selection

Instead of providing you with a dropdown list full of material names, we made a visual overview of the available materials. By doing so, you get an instant impression of how a material looks and what its properties are. Use the arrows to access more materials. If you click on the more info button, a detailed material page opens where you can learn all about that specific material. Clicking on compare materials brings you to the material comparison page. By default, the selected material from the 3D print lab is displayed and from there you can add more materials to the overview for comparison.

Color options

We have simplified the color selection processs by removing the surface option. Now, you just need to decide which color you’d like your model to be and click. For those who want more, a wide variety of different finishes are still possible, like painting your model with soft touch or high gloss paint. All of that and much more is available upon request. You can do this by requesting an offline price or by contacting our Customer Service team via contact @ i.materialise.com.

Scaling options

Scaling your model has really been improved. You can still use the slider to set the scaling percentage or enter your preferred number in the input field. But, a lot of you just wanted to be able to define the width, height or depth of a model. That is now possible: change one value and the others change accordingly. How nice is that?

Quantity

You can increase the quantity of models by pressing the plus (+) sign or decrease it by pressing the minus (-) sign. However, some of you like ordering large quantities so we’ll update this soon so you can just enter your preferred quantity.

That was your brief introduction to the new 3D print lab. We hope you like it and we’d love to hear what you think. You can always use the Feedback widget on the left or leave a message on Facebook or Twitter.

Maintenance on production servers this weekend Nov 12 and 14

We are planning a maintenance on our production servers this weekend from Friday November 12 at 18h00 CET till Sunday 14 at noon.
We will minimize the impact on the site but online prices will be unavailable from time to the time. It will stay possible to send us your offline price requests. We”re so sorry about this interruption to i.materialise but we”re working on making it better.

Additional payment service for Credit Cards is available: Ogone

When you have PayPal as payment service, you are all set.
That is what we intially thought.
For most of you PayPal is perfect.
However, when you don”t have a PayPal account, there are sometimes annoying order obstructing rules in PayPal, especially with higher value orders.
This made us look for an additional payment service.
