Gargoyle

Description

A story by Peter Verschueren:

"I admit I am a nerd but I've always been into fantasy games, movies and all that. You know the type: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Magic the Gathering, WarCraft, pretty much anything with orcs, kobolds, or mystical creatures.

Although, I don't really have time anymore to actively engage in this old hobby, the possibility to create a 3D model via i.materialise has awoken this sleeping fantasy-addiction.

The root of this addiction dates back to 1990-91 when I received a board game from 'Sinterklaas'. I was about ten years old and it was the only thing on my wish list, after seeing the game's TV commercial.

The game is called HeroQuest, was launched in 1989 and although it was already discontinued in 1994 there is still a lot of buzz on the Internet about this Role-Playing game filled with loads of beautiful plastic creatures and furniture. Numerous people are still nostalgically hunting down orcs, trashing skeleton warriors and collecting treasures. HeroQuest is still regarded as one of the first RP games.

Unfortunately, main evil character 'Gargoyle' (dutch: 'Gedrocht') plastic model, was partially destroyed by my baby sister in 1992. The head was missing and the wings were broken. So, I was looking for the ways to fix my model and i.materialise just provided me with the opportunity to fix things up, because even in nerd-land it’s uncool to have broken figurines.

As you can see I was able to achieve my goal, redesigning and 3D printing Gargoyle, so he can once again reclaim his place in HeroQuest."
